Tourette’s Community Ambassador Program

The TANZ Community Ambassador Programme is a new nationwide initiative designed to build stronger local connections for people and whānau affected by Tourette’s and tic disorders.

TANZ supports people throughout Aotearoa, but we know that meaningful community connection often happens closer to home. Many people with Tourette’s have never met another person who tics, while parents and caregivers may have never spoken with another family who truly understands their experience. This can leave people feeling isolated and unsure where to turn.

Our Community Ambassadors will help bridge that gap. They will be trusted local points of connection who can welcome people into the TANZ community, bring individuals and families together, share accurate information and resources, and help us better understand the needs of different regions.

The programme will begin with a six month pilot involving six to eight ambassadors from around New Zealand. Ambassadors will receive training, resources and ongoing support from TANZ, while helping us develop a programme that can grow sustainably over time.

At its heart, the programme is about ensuring that people affected by Tourette’s feel understood, included and less alone.

You do not need to be an expert, an experienced volunteer or a confident public speaker. A quieter community connector can be just as valuable as someone who enjoys presenting or organising events.
